The November 2011 meet for JUG Nagpur was conducted on 27th Nov 2011 at IT Mystix, Persistence Tower, Nagpur.
The meet was attended by about 14 participants and two very interesting topics were delivered namely,
It started with an introduction to Open Source Softwares, its free nature and some open source software examples. Various terms like patches, Committers, issue trackers , RFE etc. were discussed in brief. Then the available licenses like GNU GPL, Apache license, CopyLeft were introduced. It was made known that almost every commercial software now has an Open Source alternative, and one can learn , use, and benefit largely. Attendees were happy to know that it can become a platform to make their work noticed and remembered for years to come.
Then the Web Services were introduced. It was aptly shown how easy it is to write a Web Service application. A demo for the same was given. A proper introduction on web Servers, web services and few important sites were given.
After each of the above discussions there was an open discussion and questions on various aspects of the topic. Mr. Tushar Joshi and Mr. Manish Kungwani provided various answers and references for questions asked and points discussed. We look forward for more interesting topics of discussion and genuine participation.
